Thread veins, also called ‘’spider veins’’, are tiny prominent veins just below the skins surface. They tend to branch and give a spidery sort of pattern hence their common name. Spider veins can occur anywhere on the body but most often on the legs and face.
The exact cause of thread veins is unknown. Researchers believe several causes may contribute to their development such as genetic and environmental factors, or a combination of both. It’s believed that most cases of spider veins are caused by chronic exposure to the sun or extreme temperatures. This is because they usually appear on the body where skin is often exposed to sunlight and air.
At Sutton and Epsom Cosmetic Clinic, we offer Microsclerotherapy for thread veins of the leg. Microsclerotherapy is the most effective treatment for leg thread veins. Before the treatment is performed, the client’s venous system is assessed, ultrasound on the legs will establish the connection between the superficial and the deep venous systems. Microsclerotherapy is performed by administering Fibrovein using a fine needle into the thread veins which damages the target vessels and causes them to breakdown. Typically, three treatments are required three months apart. It can take between 12-18 months to achieve optimal results.
Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk) will perform your procedure.
Possible side effects of Microsclerotherapy include bruising, swelling, blistering and pigmentation. In most of the clients, side effects settle within two weeks of treatment
There is no or minimal downtime after Microsclerotherapy treatment. Clients can resume day to day activities straightaway. There is no need to take rest or have time off from work after the treatment.
